“Die sogenannten Four Letter Words haben im Amerikanischen kein gutes Ansehen, stehen sie doch oft für schmutzige Inhalte. Fuck, Cunt, Crap, Dirt, Shit, aber auch Funk, Beat, Rock, Punk und Jazz. Die Leipziger Band Crutches vertont nun eine Reihe von Vierbuchstaben- kombinationen, die nicht ganz so mies beleumundet sind wie zum Beispiel Fare, Core, Free oder Frog. Umso mehr hat es die Musik selbst in sich. Bei "Four Lttr Wrds" handelt es sich um eine krude Mischung von Jazz-Rock, Metal, Mathrock, Punk, Krautrock und Noise, die bewusst unausgewogen ist, um niemals vorhersehbar zu sein. Manches wirkt dystopisch, anderes versöhnlich, nichts jedoch opportunistisch. Auch wenn die Songtitel nicht vordergründig provokant sind, liegt den Songs doch stets unterschwellig eine Haltung von Renitenz zugrunde.
